Unless you’ve spent that last few months living under a rock, you have probably heard the word « Sriracha » on several occasions! A major trend, we all have a big fan of the famous Sriracha sauce in our entourage. One particularly avid fan even made a documentary about it!

Superbowl weekend is a great time to get together with friends and cook up all kinds of recipes that are perfect for discovering this spice.

Origins

Originally from Si Racha, a coastal city in Thailand, Sriracha sauce is a spicy sauce made up of chili paste with vineger, garlic, sugar and salt that was created in the ‘30s.

Sriracha sauce rates in between 1000 to 2500 on the Scoville scale, coming in just under jalapeno peppers.

The word Sriracha is a generic term used to designate a type of hot sauce. We can compare it as a sort of “Asian ketchup”.

A hyper trendy flavor

Sriracha is popular? That’s an understatement! Previously available only in Asian supermarkets, the sauce has made its way into all grocery stores and it is sold for over a billion dollars a year. Homemade Sriracha recipes and new by-products are popping up every day!

What do we do with Sriracha?

In Thailand, the sauce is basically used as a dip for seafood. In Viet-Nam, is it used to garnish Pho soups, fried noodles, spring rolls and to spice up different sauces.

As the trend increases, we can now find an impressive variety of foods which include Sriracha, even in candy and chips. We also use it everywhere that we want to add a bit of kick: chicken wings, burgers, eggs, cocktails. It can also be used to flavor mayonnaise, sauces and dips.

What else besides the sauce?

We can also purchase dried Sriracha spice mixes, which allow for greater versatility in the kitchen. Dry marinade, seasoning for popcorn, Asian rub, etc. We can also use the Sriracha mix in sauces, dips and dressings to give them a little oumph!

For the upcoming Superbowl parties, we have come up with different recipes that put Sriracha in the spotlight! You can also get your Superbowl Kit, which contains other essentials for a successful evening!
